 Christ commands us to be perfect, this is the “mark” or target. Through His incarnation and example, He showed us the way to perfection. It is only through His grace that we have the opportunity to attain this mark, but it involves our participation. When we sin, it means that we miss the mark, but we must get back up and repent. Repentance (metanoia) means to have a change of your heart, and through not just regret, but recognition that sin separates us, by our own will, from God. This is how we get back on the mark. This is what we must work for every day, to mimic Christ and when we fall, we get back up through repentance which allows us to reorient to the mark (target).

In the midst, between two thieves, was Your Cross found as the balance-beam of righteousness;
